The World Lacrosse championships: 2026 in Tokyo, and every result since 2022.

World Lacrosse runs world championships in men's and women's field lacrosse, in box lacrosse and at junior level. The 2026 Women's World Championship in Tokyo is finished, and the 2027 Men's World Championship, also in Tokyo, is still to come. This page gives every result since 2022 with its year and its source.

Status on 23 October 2026

The 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship in Tokyo is finished: the United States beat Canada 16-4 in the gold medal game on 2 August 2026, and Israel took bronze (World Lacrosse). The 2027 Men's World Championship is upcoming, in Tokyo from 18 to 27 June 2027, and World Lacrosse's qualifying events for it have all been played. No World Lacrosse box, under-20 or under-21 championship was found in 2026, and the research behind this page did not cover the hosts and dates of the next ones, so we do not give them.

Women's World Championship 2026, Tokyo

World Lacrosse's preview of 23 July 2026 set out the event: 16 teams in four pools, 44 games from 24 July to 2 August 2026, with pool games at Oi Stadium and the semi-finals and medal games at Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium. Every team qualified through a continental event: seven through the European Lacrosse Federation, five through the Pan-American Lacrosse Association and four through the Asia Pacific Lacrosse Union.

  • Gold: United States 16, Canada 4, on 2 August 2026 (World Lacrosse closing release).
  • Bronze: Israel beat the Haudenosaunee 7-4 on 2 August 2026, according to World Lacrosse's report of the bronze game. World Lacrosse called it Israel's first medal at the championship, and fourth place was the Haudenosaunee's best finish.
  • Most valuable player: Ally Kennedy, a United States midfielder.
  • Final standings: 1 United States, 2 Canada, 3 Israel, 4 Haudenosaunee, 5 England, 6 Australia, 7 Japan, 8 Puerto Rico, 9 Argentina, 10 Philippines, 11 Ireland, 12 Wales, 13 Czechia, 14 Scotland, 15 Chinese Taipei, 16 Germany.

World Lacrosse said the title was the United States' fifth in a row, extended a winning run of 36 games going back to 2009, and that more than 30,000 people attended. The same release dates the five-title run to 2013, but World Lacrosse's 2022 release called that year's title the fourth in a row, which would start the run in 2009; the two releases do not agree. The Philippines finished tenth in its first appearance at the championship (World Lacrosse; Manila Bulletin, 3 August 2026). On the total number of American titles: Guinness World Records counted nine after 2022, and we found no source giving the count after 2026.

Women's World Championship 2022, Towson

The 2022 championship was played at Towson University in Maryland and ended on 9 July 2022 after 11 days, with 29 teams, 110 games and 2,034 goals (World Lacrosse). The United States beat Canada 11-8 in the gold medal game on 9 July 2022, a score World Lacrosse's closing release does not give but Guinness World Records does. England won bronze in the third overtime of the bronze game; the release does not name the opponent or give the score. Taylor Cummings of the United States was most valuable player. The top eight were the United States, Canada, England, Australia, Japan, Israel, the Czech Republic and the Haudenosaunee. World Lacrosse called it its largest women's championship and said the United States became the first team to win the women's title at home.

Men's World Championship 2023, San Diego

The 14th men's championship was played over 11 days in San Diego, ending on 1 July 2023, with 30 teams and 107 games (World Lacrosse); Wikipedia gives the dates as 21 June to 1 July 2023. The United States beat Canada 10-7 in the gold medal game at Snapdragon Stadium on 1 July 2023, in front of 15,112. The Haudenosaunee beat Australia 11-6 for bronze. Brennan O'Neill of the United States, who scored five goals in the final, was most valuable player, and the Haudenosaunee's Austin Staats was named best attacker with 30 goals and 38 points, the most of the tournament.

The final standings ran: 1 United States, 2 Canada, 3 Haudenosaunee, 4 Australia, 5 Japan, 6 England, 7 Israel, 8 Jamaica. World Lacrosse's standings note records an official decision: the Philippines, 15th on the field, was placed 30th for not meeting eligibility requirements. Wikipedia counts the 2023 title as the United States' 11th; we could not confirm that count on a World Lacrosse page.

Box Championships 2024, Utica

The 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships ran from 20 to 29 September 2024 in Utica, New York, with 28 men's and 10 women's teams and 131 games; the finals were at the Adirondack Bank Center (World Lacrosse).

  • Men: Canada 13, United States 7, on 29 September 2024, Canada's sixth men's box gold and, by World Lacrosse's count, a 35-match unbeaten run going back to 2003. The Haudenosaunee won bronze. Jeff Teat of Canada was most valuable player.
  • Women (the first women's box world championship): United States 10, Canada 7, on 29 September 2024, the United States recovering from two goals down in the fourth quarter. The Haudenosaunee won bronze. Ally Kennedy of the United States was most valuable player.

All results from World Lacrosse's closing releases; the 2025 bronze score is from SNI News, the Seneca Nation newspaper (29 August 2025). World Lacrosse titles the men's junior event the U21 in 2022 and the U20 in 2025.

  • 2022: CJ Kirst of the United States was most valuable player. World Lacrosse said the United States had won all nine editions since 1988 and that the 23-team field was the largest at any of its junior events.
  • 2024: Emma LoPinto of the United States was most valuable player, with 26 goals and 23 assists in seven games. World Lacrosse called Japan's bronze the country's first medal at any World Lacrosse championship.
  • 2025: goalkeeper Grayson Manning made a save in the last second of the final and was most valuable player with 15 saves in that game (World Lacrosse; Lacrosse Canada). World Lacrosse called it Canada's first gold in the event. Lacrosse Canada lists its earlier results in the event as silver in 1988, 1999, 2003, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2022 and bronze in 1992 and 1996.

The Haudenosaunee bronze run, two versions. World Lacrosse's 2022 release called that bronze the Haudenosaunee's fourth in a row since 2008. Its 2025 release said the 2025 result ended a run of three straight bronze medals. The two World Lacrosse releases do not agree.

Men's World Championship 2027, Tokyo (upcoming)

World Lacrosse and the Japan Lacrosse Association announced on 22 July 2026 that Tokyo will host the 2027 Men's World Championship from 18 to 27 June 2027, with 16 teams, most games at Oi Stadium and the semi-finals and medal games at Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium. The places were shared out as seven from Europe, three from Asia-Pacific, one for Japan as host and five from the Pan-American region. No winner can be named before the event.

  • Pan-American Men's Championship, Kingston, Jamaica, ending 23 August 2026: Canada beat the United States 9-8 in the final after trailing 8-5 going into the fourth quarter, and the Haudenosaunee beat Jamaica 16-9 for bronze. The top five qualified: Canada, the United States, the Haudenosaunee, Jamaica and Puerto Rico (World Lacrosse, 23 August 2026).
  • Asia-Pacific Men's Championship, January 2026: Australia beat the Philippines 13-3 in the final and Japan beat New Zealand 9-5 for bronze. Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand qualified, with Japan already in as host; Korea, Hong Kong China and China go to a 2027 Men's Championship Division II in Wroclaw, Poland (World Lacrosse recap, 10 January 2026). The venue is named three ways: Wellington by World Lacrosse, Upper Hutt by Wikipedia, and the New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport by the Asia Pacific Lacrosse Union in a search summary. Upper Hutt is in the Wellington region, so these may be the same site, but we could not confirm it.
  • European Men's Championship, Wroclaw, Poland, July 2025: World Lacrosse's reports give the semi-finals as Italy 10, Ireland 8 and Israel 8, England 6, England beating Ireland 7-4 for bronze, and Latvia and Czechia qualifying on day eight. That Israel won the final over Italy and Germany took the last European place over France comes only from a search summary of World Lacrosse pages, so it is unconfirmed.

From USA Lacrosse's history of the U.S. men's team. USA Lacrosse says the idea of a championship every four years was born at a 1974 invitational in Melbourne, but its list does not name that event's winner, so we leave it out. The first women's world cup, under the women's international federation, was played in 1982 in Nottinghamshire, England, where the United States beat Australia in overtime (USA Lacrosse). For how the federations came together, see the international federations.
